Calvary North Adelaide Continence and Urology clinic service is dedicated to expertly managing urinary continence and addressing various urological conditions with precision and care. This is led by our experienced continence/ urology nurses that specialise in the management, prevention and treatment of patients with urinary incontinence or urological dysfunction for both men and women.
Our clinic specialises in providing tailored treatments and personalized care plans to help patients regain control and improve their quality of life. Additionally, we take pride in our nurse-led clinic, pioneering the treatment of bladder cancer with Intravesical BCG immunotherapy.

The Calvary team of obstetricians, paediatricians, midwives, nurses and allied health teams are here to support all aspects of your midwifery care. Calvary has one of the best equipped maternity units in South Australia with facilities including:

You can relax knowing our specialist teams are here to support you and your baby to receive the very best care 24 hours a day. Our birthing suites are designed with an emphasis on comfort, and give you a relaxing, safe, comfortable environment in which to have your baby. We also actively encourage your partner and/or support person to be involved in your care throughout labour and beyond.

Our dedicated team of midwives provide expert birthing support and post natal care to you, your baby and family during this special time. This support includes:

The St Helen Ward is a 26 bed unit. St Helen’s caters for patients with acute medical and chronic illnesses, as well as oncological or haematological malignancy.
The Ward cares for patients at all stages of their cancer journey which includes outpatient advice and patient triage in consultation with our Visiting Medical Officers.
As a unit we are supported by a multidisciplinary team which includes Visiting Medical Officers, Family and Patient Counseling, Physiotherapy, Dietetics, Pastoral Care, Volunteers and Mary Potter Hospice.
At Calvary North Adelaide Hospital, paediatricians in private practice work with babies, children, adolescents and young adults.

The Calvary North Adelaide Hospital pre-admission clinic is a free service, which provides patients with information and support. Your surgeon may refer you to our pre-admission clinic or you may contact us to make an appointment.
Our goal is to better understand your needs and ensure you have a positive stay with us and are discharged safely back into community. Here your will be provided with information about your procedure or treatment and hospital stay. This appointment will be a telephone consultation.
How it works
A pre-admission nurse will go through your health questionnaire and answer any questions about your admission. This is a good time to discuss issues such as your current medication or any dietary requirements.
You should advise the nurse about any pre-existing conditions or risk factors and express any concerns about your care after discharge. The nurse can refer you to our discharge planning and/or social work team.
The Social Work and Patient and Family Counselling Service at Calvary North Adelaide Hospital involves working with palliative patients and their families in the Mary Potter Hospice as well as those affected by a life limiting illness in the wider hospital, or on a referral basis.
This comprehensive service is managed by Social Workers and offers but is not limited to, general counselling, advocacy, providing education and information, discharge planning assistance, end of life care support and has a specific focus on palliative care and bereavement. Social work is carried out in collaboration with patients and families as well as Doctors, Nurses, Case Managers and other Allied Health Professionals as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Speech pathology, also known as speech therapy, is the diagnosis, management and treatment of people who are unable to communicate effectively or suffer from the following issues:

- Recent problems with reading and writing
- Swallowing difficulties

At Calvary North Adelaide Hospital our speech pathologists help a variety of people who fail to develop normal communication or people who acquire communication issues as a result of disease, injury or stroke.

Calvary North Adelaide Hospital has stomal therapy nurses (STN) who specialise in the management of patients with faecal and urinary diversions. In addition, the STN are experts in the management of both simple and complex draining wounds, fistulas, gastrostomies, acute and chronic wounds and associated skin care.
All our STN are members of the Australian Association of Stomal Therapy Nurses ensuring the highest degree of stomal therapy nursing practice.

Grief is a normal and natural response to losing someone significant in our lives. At Calvary we find many people benefit from speaking to a Specialist Bereavement Counsellor.
Our qualified, professional counsellors provide support in a non-judgemental, safe and empathic environment so you can discuss any emotional and/or physical reactions you’re currently experiencing.
Calvary North Adelaide Hospital’s free bereavement counselling service is available to family and friends of patients who have passed away.

Through supportive one-on-one sessions, trained volunteers listen, record and help shape each participant’s story in their own words, creating a lasting keepsake for loved ones to treasure.

Calvary North Adelaide Hospital specialises in breast care, working in partnership with our breast and plastic surgeons.
They offer assessment, diagnosis and treatment of both benign and malignant disease. Specialist-trained breast care nurses provide a comprehensive range of pre- and post-operative advice and services, and can visit you during your stay. They also offer appointments at the breast care clinic.

A complimentary therapy program including massage, reflexology, skin care, and visiting pets is available for palliative patients.
The pastoral care team supports the Fra Angelico Creative Arts Program which offers an opportunity to create simple and unique mementos.
The complementary therapy programmes are all supported by volunteers.
The 15 bed unit is comprised of 15 single rooms with an ensuite toilet and shower. Each room has outdoor access to garden areas. Two lounge areas and a kitchen are available for visitors. A chapel is open 24 hours a day for prayer or quiet contemplation.
We encourage visitors to our patients and have flexible visiting hours. The number of visitors and time of visiting may be restricted at the discretion of the nursing staff, depending upon your clinical requirements and consideration of other patients in the area. We request that only one visitor be with the patient the unit before 11am
All patient referrals to Mary Potter Hospice must be by a medical practitioner directly to a member of the medical team in Mary Potter Hospice.
Mary Potter Palliative Care Unit is supported by the Mary Potter Foundation.

Dietician Services helps with areas such as weight management, education, checking nutritional levels, meal planning, promoting healthy eating and supporting people having bariatric surgery.
At Calvary North Adelaide Hospital our specialist team of Nutritionists and Dieticians will work with you to create an individual treatment plan. If you’re a patient at Calvary North Adelaide Hospital, our Dieticians will collaborate with our in-house chefs to ensure your meals are appetising, delicious, and meet your specific dietary needs.
We also provide educational resources to help you maintain your nutritional status both during your admission and after you leave.

Occupational therapy helps people take part in everyday activities. Occupational therapists help to modify your environment, provide adaptive equipment and explore different ways to complete activities.
At Calvary North Adelaide Hospital our occupational therapists work as part of a multi-disciplinary team helping with a wide range of conditions including:

- Progressive neurological conditions
- Recovery from multi-trauma

Our occupational therapists are focussed on helping you maintain your independence, mobility and safety. We’ll look at your home and work with you and your family to find the right equipment and suggest minor modifications to make life easier.
Occupational therapists can also organise for minor work to be completed and can give you access to any necessary equipment. All equipment can be trialled, borrowed and purchased.

Their pharmacy stocks a large range of medications.
The Pharmacy at Calvary North Adelaide Hospital provides medications for hospital patients. and also offer a prescription service to the public.
Please note: It’s important that patients bring their current medications and prescriptions when they are admitted to hospital.

Diagnostic services cover a range of scans, x-rays and laboratory tests used by specialists to determine the cause of an illness.
At Calvary North Adelaide Hospital we offer the following range of diagnostic services.
Endoscopy is a general term covering any procedure that involves examining the interior of the body with an endoscope. Calvary North Adelaide Hospital has a specialist team that uses cutting-edge technology to carry out all endoscopic treatments.
Endoscopy can be used in the following procedures
- Bronchoscopy (examination of the lungs)
- Colonoscopy (examination of the large bowel)
- Cystoscopy (examination of cysts)
- Endoanal Ultrasounds (examination of your anal canal)
- ECTT (examination of pancreatic ducts, bile duct, gall bladder and liver ducts)

- Endoscopy is carried out under anaesthesia, which means you won’t be able to drive home after your procedure.
