Tasmania blessing celebrate new facilities
The formal blessing of two important new infrastructure additions in Tasmania was conducted by Archbishop Anthony Ireland this week in the presence of five Calvary Ministry Trustees, Calvary Executive and hospital staff.

Making his first formal visit to Calvary Lenah Valley Hospital in Hobart on Tuesday, Archbishop Ireland blessed the renovated maternity ward, marking the conclusion of the $2 million improvement project.
Following the closure of a private provider’s maternity services in March last year, and a decision to extend the Lenah Valley maternity service, the new and upgraded facilities include a special care nursery and a fifth birthing suite, allowing for up to 900 births annually.
At Calvary St Vincent’s Hospital Launceston, two new modular operating theatres and associated renovations were blessed by the Archbishop on Wednesday afternoon.
A first for Tasmania, the new theatres and associated renovations restore surgical capacity following the closure of three theatres at Calvary St Luke’s Hospital in September.
Joined by Damien Bruce, CEO, Sharon Kendall, COO Hospitals, Melissa Evans, Regional COO Hospitals and local hospital leaders, both events reflected Calvary’s ongoing commitment to investing in high-quality healthcare services for Tasmanian communities.
“Both blessings celebrated the two significant milestones across both hospitals and recognise the work from Calvary staff who have sought to improve and strengthen access to care in both Northern and Southern Tasmania,” said Director of Mission Tony Brennan
.“They honour the work we do in ‘Being for others’ and also recognise the legacy of the Little Company of Mary Sisters in Tasmania.
“Our thanks extend to all staff, clinicians, project teams and partners whose dedication and collaboration made these projects possible,” said Tony.
