As new Calvary signage is lifted into place at the Moorabbin hospital today, it's a milestone moment for the staff who have provided care within its walls for close to a decade, and for the community who choose to receive care there.

From today, Holmesglen's nurses, doctors, allied health professionals and support teams are being welcomed into the Calvary family with a small gesture of care: a fresh cookie, a warm smile and the essential cup of coffee or tea to start or end their shifts.

The carefully planned transition has focused on continuing safe, high-quality care for patients, providing stability for all nursing, clinical and support staff, and ensuring a smooth handover from Healthscope to Calvary Health Care.

Since midnight, patients have had uninterrupted access to the services and clinical expertise they know and trust, now championed by Calvary.

Calvary Chief Executive Officer Damien Bruce said the opening of Calvary Holmesglen Private Hospital was a defining moment for Calvary's future in Victoria and a strong commitment to extending exceptional connected care to more communities.

"This is a proud and significant day for Calvary as we welcome Holmesglen Private Hospital, and the people who make it such an important part of the local health community, into our organisation," Mr Bruce said.

Calvary Holmesglen Private Hospital brings together patient-centred clinical care, education, training and research in one connected health precinct.

The 147-bed acute medical and surgical hospital includes seven integrated operating theatres, intensive care and coronary care units, chemotherapy treatment bays and an on-site cardiac catheter laboratory.

It also provides a 24/7 Emergency Department caring for adults and children, alongside specialist services including orthopaedic, spinal and general surgery, cancer care in partnership with Icon Cancer Centre, diagnostic imaging, pathology, pharmacy, and clinical training facilities for future health professionals.

Calvary Regional Chief Operations Officer Hospitals Victoria and Tasmania, Melissa Evans, said Calvary had worked closely with Healthscope and the Holmesglen team to make the move as seamless as possible for patients, staff, VMOs and partners.

"Our priority has been to ensure patients continue to receive safe, high-quality care with minimal disruption, while supporting staff and doctors with the information, tools and confidence they need to become part of Calvary," Ms Evans said.
