Calvary Cooinda marks its golden anniversary

“Making the transition into aged care and leaving the home we’d built and lived in for more than 67 years wasn’t easy but, when two rooms became available at Calvary Cooinda, we jumped at the opportunity,” Ms Bailey said.
“My favourite part of the home is the beautiful carers. We’re so happy here.”
Today, Calvary Cooinda recognised 50 years with a special service celebrating its history and a barbecue for staff and residents. Calvary Cooinda Home Manager, Hannah Liplyn, said Calvary Cooinda’s golden anniversary was a testament to the incredible staff.
“I’m so proud of this home and I’m honoured by how much the community loves Calvary Cooinda. As soon as you say you work here, the feedback from the community is that it is the best place to be,” Ms Liplyn said.
The idea to establish a dedicated aged care home in Singleton was raised in 1954, with then-Mayor of Lithgow, Alderman Harold G. Coates, championing the cause. A planning committee secured Federal funding and in 1975, Cooinda opened its doors as a ‘home away from home’.
Though undergoing significant upgrades in 2003 and 2019, Calvary Cooinda Home Support Officer, Jo McLeod, said the home had maintained its small-town feel. She has worked at Cooinda for 20 years.
“When you go downtown, everyone says Calvary Cooinda is the place to be. It is so lovely to hear that feedback from our community.”
“I just love working here. Being on the smaller side with 34 beds, we are able to keep that country-town feel in the home. Calvary Cooinda is a special place.”
