Ryde residents move into their new care home
Eighty residents recently made the move ‘next door’ to their new, purpose-built aged care home in the 8-hectare grounds of Calvary Ryde Retirement Community.
General Manager Joseph Massih said the move marked the completion of the first stage of the $60 million major redevelopment, which will also include an additional 21 independent living units on the historic site.
“It was a major logistical move but it all went exactly to plan, largely due to the care and effort of our staff who went out of their way to make sure that our residents had a safe, comfortable and smooth transition,” he said.
“It might have only been a relatively short distance, but it was a major move for the residents.
“We kept everyone informed and up-to-date with the move and were able to share photographs and video taken on the day with residents and their families.
“There’s no doubt Covid-19 has made these past months more challenging for everyone, but staff, residents and their families have been very supportive and remained positive.”
Calvary’s Ryde Residential Aged Care home supports all levels of care, including respite care, permanent care and dementia-specific care. The new home offers almost 30 additional residential aged care places in an environment purpose-built to enhance resident’s socialisation, independence, health and overall wellbeing.
Mr Massih said the new building meets modern community expectations of single rooms with ensuites and a range of lifestyle features including outdoor gardens and a rooftop terrace containing a family BBQ area, a café, hairdressing salon and spacious communal areas.
Calvary Ryde Retirement Community incorporates Daltons Gardens Retirement Village comprising of 126 independent living units and is set amid 8 hectares of landscaped grounds that were part of the historic Dalton estate dating back to the early 1800s.
“With the first stage of the redevelopment now completed, the next stage has begun,” Mr Massih said. “It includes demolishing parts of the former onsite accommodation buildings, building new roadways, paths and landscaped gardens plus the construction of an additional 21 independent living units, which are expected to be completed early next year.”
