Why a pear tree?

For centuries, trees have been symbols of life, connection and renewal; places of shelter, reflection, and gathering.

The pear tree holds particular significance for Calvary. At the first convent of the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary in Hyson Green, Nottingham, a pear tree grew in the garden. Beneath it, Venerable Mary Potter and the early Sisters prayed, planned and celebrated as their mission took root.

Today, the pear tree continues to symbolise care, nourishment and hope, making it a meaningful choice for a dedication that honours both a personal story and a shared community legacy.
