Virtual reality enriches lives at Calvary Springvale

Earlier this year, a generous $7,000 donation from a resident’s family at our Calvary Springvale Aged Care home supported the purchase of a NeuronsVR headset.

This virtual reality system is already making a significant positive impact on the wellbeing of residents.

The family’s thoughtful act of gratitude not only honours the care their loved one received but reflects Calvary’s mission of Being for Others and shows how one family’s generosity can enrich many lives.

The NeuronsVR system allows residents to enjoy immersive experiences such as arm-chair travel, nature scenes, outdoor adventures and group activities, even if mobility or cognitive limitations would otherwise prevent them.

According to the provider, NeuronsVR supports aged-care residents with meaningful, person-centred engagement and has been shown to improve mood, social connection and quality of life.

At Calvary Springvale, the gift has sparked moments of joy, calm and connection. Residents who previously had limited access to meaningful outings are now travelling virtually to beaches, forests, city tours or even familiar childhood places.

For our Leisure, Lifestyle and Activities team members and families of residents, these experiences create opportunities for conversation, reminiscence and shared memory.

The inclusive nature of the technology, with multilingual options and intuitive controls, helps ensure more residents can participate, regardless of language or mobility barriers.

We are so grateful to the generous family for turning their gratitude into generosity, and for showing how one gift can bring comfort, inspiration and happiness to so many.

Their donation not only funded a piece of this cutting-edge technology but seeded a new dimension of care that aligns with Calvary’s commitment to innovation, dignity and connection.
