Fostering wellness and connection at Calvary Kooyong’s men’s groups

Run by 78 year-old volunteer Bruce Forsyth, these men’s groups bring residents together, encouraging camaraderie and meaningful interactions.
At Hyson Apartments, discussions around careers and interests have sparked friendships and intellectual engagement. Guest speakers further enrich these conversations.
At Huntly Suites, meetings are suited to residents’ health needs. The group has shown to improve mood, social participation, and camaraderie, while strengthening friendships between members.
Mr Forsyth shared his thoughts on the power of connection: “There is no doubt that bringing men together, treating them all as equals, and fostering stimulating conversation contributes to their overall wellbeing.”
“It’s been incredibly rewarding to witness some of the connections that have been made.”
Calvary Kooyong General Manager, Shannon Thompson, said residents had expressed genuine appreciation for the groups, reinforcing the value of creating spaces where men can connect, share experiences, and support one another.
“It’s clear that the men’s groups have fostered resilience, camaraderie, and a lasting sense of belonging,” Ms Thompson said.
