Calvary National CEO, Martin Bowles, congratulated Ms Moore for the significant recognition and thanked her for her commitment to her patients and Calvary Mater Newcastle.

“It’s is clear from the way Lyndal’s colleagues describe her that in line with Calvary’s Mission of Being for Others that she too consistently goes out of her way to ensure her young patients are cared for and supported,” Mr Bowles said.

“On behalf of everyone at Calvary, I extend my gratitude to Lyndal for her contribution to Calvary and the broader community we serve.”

Ms Moore has been a nurse for 32 years and currently works for the Hunter and Northern NSW Youth Cancer Service, a specialised public cancer service for young people aged between 15-25 years of age with a cancer diagnosis.

In winning the award, Ms Moore was acknowledged for her dedication to her patients and their loved ones especially during difficult moments.

Calvary Mater Newcastle General Manager, Roz Everingham, said the award was great recognition of the care and compassion Ms Moore provided to her patients every day.

“Lyndal exudes Calvary’s mission, by being known by her colleagues and her patients as a source of healing, hope and nurturing,” Ms Everingham said.

“Those close to Lyndal describe her as ‘Mary Poppins in scrubs’ because she goes out of her way to connect with her patients as a friend, carer and advocate. She also has a magical sense of humour that provides so much delight to those around her.”

A recent achievement of Ms Moore’s was securing funding through the Calvary Mater Auxiliary to create a memory box for terminal patients to help their loved ones remember the special moments.

Ms Moore also played an instrumental role in setting up diversional therapy trolleys for Youth Cancer Service patients. Working with her patients, Ms Moore stocks the trolleys with a range of activities to help make being an inpatient as little easier.

Ms Moore was presented the Nurse of the Year Award last night Tuesday, 27 August at the Catholic Health Australia annual conference. The award recognises an outstanding nurse, midwife or nursing team working in Catholic health and aged care services. It acknowledges the commitment of an individual nurse or team to serving patients/clients with respect and dignity while acknowledging their individual uniqueness.
