The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed today by Calvary’s National Chief Executive Officer, Martin Bowles, and UNDA’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Francis Campbell, solidifies the commitment to increase support for research, development and training that promotes innovation and is relevant to the healthcare sector.

Mr Bowles said the new collaboration was a significant step in Calvary’s Research Strategic Plan.

Calvary's vision

“Our vision is focussed on improving patient, resident and client wellbeing and quality of life, and this research partnership with UNDA will help us to driver better health outcomes,” said Mr Bowles.

“We know that by partnering with the education sector we can embed research into our models of care that supports innovation across our workforce and ultimately benefits those for who we provide care.”

“This MOU is exciting because it creates real opportunities for higher degree students to participate in industry-based programs within Calvary’s services, and upskills our staff with research training, particularly those early career researchers working in our hospitals and aged care services,” said Mr Bowles.

Work is already underway to explore joint research initiatives in the field of palliative and end-of-life care, with a focus on supporting patients who have a progressive incurable disease.

The importance of collaboration

Professor Campbell said the collaboration on research would make a transformative contribution to patient care and quality of life, and ensure Australians received constantly improving and cutting-edge health care.

“By working together with a healthcare provider that shares our values, and commitment to training the next generation of doctors, nurses and medical researchers, we can further build upon the significant contribution the University has made to healthcare in Australia,” said Professor Campbell.

Overall, the collaboration is guided by a deep respect for the values that drive the missions of Calvary and The University of Notre Dame Australia, alongside a strong commitment to advancing Australia’s healthcare system.
