National Perioperative Nurses Week

Calvary is proud to celebrate National Perioperative Nurses Week this week 6-12 October, in recognition of the valuable role our perioperative nurses play in delivering quality care.

Perioperative nurses care for patients before, during and after surgery or interventional procedure and perform a range of specialised roles including, but not limited to:

  • Preoperative patient assessment and education nurse
  • Anaesthetic nurse
  • Circulating nurse (scout)
  • Instrument nurse (scrub)
  • Post Anaesthesia Care Unit nurse (recovery)
  • Perioperative Nurse Surgeon’s Assistant (PNSA)
  • Nurse practitioners.

Calvary has more than 640 perioperative nurses nationally across 12 operating hospitals. Perioperative nurses account for roughly half of Calvary’s Registered Nurse population.

Perioperative Nurse Week is an initiative of the Australasian College of Operating Room Nurses (ACORN).
