Calvary St Joseph's Retirement Community
Calvary St Joseph’s Retirement Community provides aged care and independent living accommodation to 130 residents in the bushland of Sandgate. The facility also offers a dementia secure unit, large entertaining areas and extensive gardens including a sensory garden.
The residence has supported and served the Newcastle and Lower Hunter communities for more than 70 years. Now known as Calvary St Joseph’s, the original St Joseph’s began providing care for the community in August 1946, when the first patients were admitted. From those very humble beginnings, St Joseph’s grew and in 1959 the major buildings and Chapel were officially opened and the buildings blessed as a ‘home for the aged’.
Guided by Calvary’s 135 year history in health care, you will have peace of mind with access to quality care. With light-filled living spaces and beautifully landscaped grounds, now is the perfect time to be welcomed into this caring and close-knit community.
You can experience a wonderful lifestyle with both peaceful and restful moments balanced with a socially active calendar of events. There are beautiful and lush gardens to enjoy as well as recreational areas and children’s playgrounds to entertain visiting families.
We have three different accommodation options to suit you or your family member’s needs:
- Residential Aged Care – Permanent accommodation with specialist care services
- Independent Living – Freedom and space without the worry of maintaining a property
- Respite Care – Short term accommodation for up to two weeks
“I visited my father in the Max Colby unit and was most impressed with the nurses, kitchen staff, cleaners and all. All staff were fantastic. Dad looks wonderful. Dad also speaks highly of the place. He is very happy.” Louise, family member.
