About residential aged care

Learn more about residential aged care, the support available and whether it's the right choice for you or someone you love.

Calvary Residential Aged Care provides accommodation, nursing care, personal support and opportunities for social connection for older people who need ongoing assistance with everyday living.
Our homes offer 24-hour nursing and personalised support, alongside lifestyle activities designed to promote wellbeing, independence and meaningful connections. We focus on understanding each resident's individual needs, preferences and choices so they can feel comfortable, supported and at home.

Residential aged care may be suitable for older people who need more assistance than can safely or comfortably be provided at home.
This may include support with personal care, mobility, medication, health conditions or everyday activities. Residential aged care can also provide reassurance for people who need ongoing nursing care or a more supported living environment.
An aged care assessment can help determine whether residential aged care is appropriate for your needs.

It may be time to explore residential aged care when everyday activities are becoming more difficult, health needs are increasing or living safely at home is becoming a concern.
You might also consider residential aged care if family members or carers are finding it difficult to provide the level of support needed.
Starting the conversation early can give you and your loved ones time to explore options, ask questions and make an informed decision.

Residential aged care provides ongoing accommodation, personal assistance and 24-hour nursing support for people with more complex care needs.
Retirement living is designed for people who can live independently while enjoying the benefits of a community setting.
Home care provides support in your own home, helping you maintain independence and continue your usual routines.
Calvary offers residential aged care, retirement living and home care services, so our team can help you understand the differences and explore the option that best suits your needs.
Find your care

At Calvary, caring for others has been at the heart of what we do for more than 135 years.
Our residential aged care homes combine compassionate, person-centred care with nursing support, meaningful activities and opportunities to stay connected with family, friends and the wider community.
Our PEARS Model of Care focuses on five important areas: Personhood, Environment, Activity, Relationships and Safe Care. It guides our approach to respecting individual choices, supporting wellbeing and helping residents enjoy a fulfilling life.

Costs, fees and funding

Understand how residential aged care fees work, government assistance and the different ways accommodation costs can be paid.

Residential aged care costs depend on your financial circumstances, the home and room you choose, and the fees that apply to your care and accommodation.
You may need to contribute towards everyday living expenses, non-clinical care and accommodation. Additional charges may apply if you choose optional services.
Each Calvary Residential Aged Care home page includes accommodation pricing for available room types, along with an Aged Care Fee Estimator to help you understand your potential daily accommodation payment.
Our Calvary Assist team is also here to help you understand the costs that may apply to your individual circumstances.

Residential aged care fees may include:
  • Basic daily fee: A contribution towards everyday living costs, including meals, cleaning, laundry and utilities.
  • Means-tested hotelling contribution: An additional contribution towards everyday living services, depending on your financial circumstances.
  • Means-tested non-clinical care contribution: A contribution towards non-clinical care services, where applicable.
  • Accommodation payment or contribution: The cost of your room, depending on your financial assessment and the accommodation you choose.
  • Higher everyday living fee: A charge for optional additional services, if offered and selected.
The fees that apply depend on your circumstances and the aged care fee arrangements relevant to your entry into care.
You can explore accommodation pricing and use the Aged Care Fee Estimator on individual Calvary Residential Aged Care home pages to better understand potential accommodation costs.
Our Calvary Assist team can also help explain the different fees and direct you to the appropriate government information.

A Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) is a lump sum payment towards the cost of accommodation in a residential aged care home.
A Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) is an alternative way of paying for accommodation through ongoing daily payments.
Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to pay using a RAD, a DAP or a combination of both.
For residents entering care under the accommodation arrangements introduced on 1 November 2025, a government-regulated retention amount may apply to a RAD.
Calvary's individual aged care home pages provide accommodation pricing and an estimator to help you understand different payment options.
