A $14m million-dollar investment

Surgical services at Calvary St Vincent’s Hospital have been boosted with the addition of two new modular operating theatres – a milestone first for Tasmania. The first procedure was successfully performed on Thursday 7 May.
The $14m million-dollar investment was driven by the necessary closure of the theatre complex at St Luke's Hospital in late September 2025, ensuring surgical services for the north Tasmanian community could continue without interruption.
The two modular units were installed and commissioned in under five months, with remarkable efficiency and minimal disruption to the hospital or the surrounding neighbourhood — no small feat for a busy working hospital environment.

Calvary partnered with leading modular theatre manufacturer Q-Bital and Tasmanian construction firm Erilyan to deliver the project. Rigorous safety testing and clinical orientation were completed ahead of opening. "As part of commissioning the theatres for use, Calvary has completed numerous tests to meet safety requirements," Ms Pryde said. "Ensuring our vital surgical services are running at optimum is our priority as we continue to serve north Tasmanians."
The second operating theatre is due to commence procedures on Monday 1 June.
General Manager Kate Pryde said the project was a testament to the team's effort and Calvary's commitment to innovation in healthcare delivery.
"From when we started to prepare the site in early December to being ready to open the doors for our first patients in five months is exciting," she said.
"It has been an enormous effort of coordination, planning and execution and I am extremely proud of how all of our staff across both sites have worked collaboratively to make this possible."
Surgical bookings at Calvary St Vincent's Hospital can continue to be made through doctors' rooms in the usual way.
