Calvary residents step out for cancer research

More than 30 residents at Calvary Goonawarra aged care home, along with staff and family members, will lace up their comfy shoes later this month for a special cancer fundraiser.

The Sunbury community is encouraged to join the Calvary Goonawarra team for the short, but special, fun run to raise money for breast cancer research.

“I’m pretty sure our residents will be walking or using their mobility aids rather than running, but they will still be having fun and contributing to a great cause,” said home manager Michelle Magundayao.

“Everyone in the community is touched by cancer in some way, including members of our own Calvary family. Together we wanted to acknowledge that and do something to help support those affected.”

The $5 pay-on-the-day entry fee will earn participants a pink ribbon lovingly handmade by the home’s residents.

The event is on Thursday, 31 October at 1.30pm. The short course begins at Calvary Goonawarra and finishes at the nearby Sunbury recreational reserve.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and an opportunity to raise awareness and funds to combat one of the most common forms of cancer in Australia.
