Pear trees take root in celebrations

The activity was inspired by the early history of the Little Company of Mary Sisters, whose Mission of Being for others took root more than a century ago.
The pear tree has long symbolised connection, nourishment and renewal, making it a fitting tribute to the six courageous Sisters who began Calvary’s story in 1885.
Across the aged care homes, residents gathered with staff to prepare soil, place young trees into the ground and share memories of past gardens, family orchards and favourite fruits.
For our many residents who are keen gardeners, planting these trees was a welcome opportunity to get their hands dirty again.
For others, it became a moment of companionship, a chance to chat, laugh and create something they could watch grow over time.
The trees, now planted, will stand as living reminders of our shared history and the values that continue to guide our care.
More importantly, they reflect what has always been at the heart of Calvary: people coming together, supporting one another and creating moments of joy in everyday life.
We look forward to sharing their progress with you as they grow, just as our Calvary aged care community continues to flourish with care, connection and purpose.
