Calvary Mater Newcastle Auxiliary contributes more than $355,000 to patient care
The Calvary Mater Newcastle Auxiliary has reached another fundraising milestone, with its latest donation helping to enhance care and support for patients across the hospital.
The Calvary Mater Newcastle Auxiliary has once again demonstrated the power of community spirit, presenting a remarkable $355,357.16 to Calvary Mater Newcastle at its Annual General Meeting today.
The funds, raised through countless hours of volunteer work, community fundraising activities and generous donations, have supported equipment and initiatives that enhance the experience of patients and their families.
Auxiliary President Elaine Wellard said the achievement reflected the dedication of both Auxiliary members and the wider Newcastle and Hunter community.
"Every dollar raised is the result of an incredible collective effort from our volunteers, supporters and local community," Ms Wellard said.
"Our members generously donate their time throughout the year, whether it's organising events, making handmade items, staffing fundraising stalls or helping behind the scenes."
"We're also grateful to the many people and organisations who support our work, from those who attend our events and buy raffle tickets to our grant providers, donors and community groups. Their support enables us to continue making a real difference at Calvary Mater Newcastle."
Throughout the year, a variety of fundraising initiatives contributed to the impressive total. Handmade craft items, including knitted blankets created by community members, raised more than $51,000, while the Auxiliary's popular lolly tables generated more than $40,000.
Homemade jams and pickles contributed over $9,000, and grant funding totaled $50,000.
Housie at Beresfield Bowling Club raised more than $60,000, catering provided at Bowling Days generated over $32,000, and community functions held throughout the year brought in over $23,000.
Calvary Mater Newcastle General Manager Roz Everingham said the Auxiliary's contribution extended far beyond fundraising.
"The Auxiliary continues to play an invaluable role within our hospital community," Ms Everingham said.
"Their fundraising efforts help provide equipment, resources and comforts that make a meaningful difference to the care and wellbeing of our patients and their families."
"The commitment shown by every Auxiliary member is extraordinary, and we are incredibly thankful for everything they do to support Calvary Mater Newcastle."
Funds raised during the year have enabled the purchase of a range of equipment and patient-focused initiatives, valued at $373,168.70, including:
- 2 Apheresis Machines for Ward 5D (Haematology)
- 1 point of care ultrasound machine for the Emergency Department
- 6 patient treatment recliner chairs and a vascular ultrasound machine for Ward 5D (Haematology)
- LUCAS V3.1 mechanical CPR device for the Rapid Response Team
- 2 manikins for training on nasogastric tube simulator for use across the hospital
- Diversional therapy equipment for patients of the wards
- Contributions towards head and neck cancer prosthetics
- Weekly flowers for the Mary Potter Chapel
The Auxiliary's 27 members, aged between 61 and 89, collectively volunteered 16,781 hours during the year.
This equates to an average of more than 621 hours contributed by each member and approximately $13,161.37 raised per volunteer.
