Helping people take the next step toward independent living at Calvary Hyson Retirement Apartments

Our recent Hyson Retirement Apartments Open Day gave prospective residents a warm, informative introduction to independent living.

The Hyson Retirement Apartments Open Day, held on 31 March, marked the first event of its kind at Hyson and the third hosted within the Calvary portfolio in the past five month, reflecting a continued commitment to ensuring retirees have access to education and support around rightsizing into a retirement living community.
The day was a resounding success, offering guests a relaxed and welcoming opportunity to experience the lifestyle and benefits of independent living within this elegant community.
The morning commenced with a resident panel interview, where three Hyson residents candidly shared their personal journeys of downsizing and transitioning into retirement living.
Their reflections created an authentic and engaging atmosphere, providing prospective residents with valuable firsthand insights and the reassurance that comes from hearing directly from those already enjoying life at Hyson.
This was followed by a series of expert-led presentations featuring a retirement living specialist, professional downsizing and relocation consultants, and representatives from Calvary Home Care.
Together, they delivered practical guidance, addressed common concerns, and helped demystify the transition process, equipping attendees with the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions.
Guests were then invited to tour the luxury apartments, showcasing thoughtfully designed living spaces and premium shared amenities that support a vibrant, independent lifestyle.
The experience was complemented by a five-star lunch prepared by the Kooyong Precinct’s chef, served in the communal space on Level 7.
This relaxed setting provided attendees with the opportunity to continue conversations about retirement living in a social environment, engaging with existing residents, Calvary staff, and subject matter experts.
Overall, the Open Day provided a comprehensive and engaging introduction to life at Hyson, combining expert advice, real resident experiences, and an immersive look at the community, empowering guests to confidently consider their future housing options.
“Our aim was to create a welcoming and informative environment where people could hear real experiences, ask questions, and feel supported in considering their next steps,” said Mark Eagleston, Manager, Head of Retirement Living Performance at Calvary.
“Today was not a sales event; it was an education session for prospective residents to better understand rightsizing and to find the retirement living option that best suits their needs. It was encouraging to see such strong engagement and thoughtful conversations throughout the day.
