On Saturday November 8, 73-year-old Mr Fishburn began his fundraising walk from our Calvary Mater Newcastle hospital to Wangi Bowling Club, raising money for the hospital's Oncology Ward 5B.

The walk took place over two days – from Calvary Mater Newcastle to the Commercial Hotel Boolaroo on November 8, and from the Commercial Hotel Boolaroo to Wangi Bowling Club on November 9.

“This is my opportunity to give back to the hospital that cared for Cindy throughout her illness and during her last days,” Mr Fishburn said.

“I promised Cindy that I would do this charity walk and raise funds for the ward where she was cared for.”

Mr Fishburn said what began as a small fundraiser has now raised close to $40,000.

“I’m overwhelmed by the love and support from the community through donations and from those who offered to walk alongside me in Cindy’s memory,” Mr Fishburn said.

Calvary Mater Newcastle Cancer Services Operations Manager, Marissa Ledlin, expressed her gratitude to Mr Fishburn and the community for their generosity.

“We are extremely grateful to Noel and his family for their incredible support,” Ms Ledlin said.

“Through the money raised we will purchase much needed items that will help provide comfort and care to patients and their loved ones in the Oncology Ward at CMN.”

The celebration, including raffles, was held at the Wangi Bowling Club on Sunday, 9 November from 2pm. The community was encouraged to come along to honour Cindy, and the turnout was incredible!
