On Wednesday, 11 June, Calvary Mater Newcastle will host a dedicated Men’s Health Night, featuring presentations from a range of healthcare professionals and guest speakers talking all things ‘men’s health’.

Calvary Mater Newcastle Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse, Nancy Consoli, said a range of topics will be covered including mental health, alcohol and drug use, exercise and its benefits, Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) testing guidelines, cardiovascular disease, melanoma and skin cancer, weight management, and sexuality and ageing.

“Men’s Health Week is as a timely reminder that men are statistically more likely to delay seeking medical advice, which often results in poorer health outcomes,” Ms Consoli said.

“It is so important men take an active approach in managing their health and wellbeing. This free, informative event will highlight why it is important to prioritise your health, encourage open conversations and also help reduce the stigma around men’s health.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in an introductory laughing yoga session on the night, and a range of information stands and health resources will be available throughout the evening.

According to the Australian Men’s Health Forum, around 50 men die each day in Australia from preventable causes.
