Calvary staff dig deep for a worthy cause this Christmas
This Christmas, Calvary Health Care corporate staff in Newcastle are again supporting local not-for-profit organisation Carrie’s Place, which supports women and children impacted by domestic and family violence, and homelessness.
Calvary’s NSW and Queensland Work Health and Safety Advisor, Amanda Wilson, who organises the Christmas Drive, delivered donations to the Carrie’s Place team members, who were busy preparing food hampers for families in need.
“In my previous role I had a lot of dealings with mums and children who had experienced trauma and I was so impressed with the work Carrie’s Place did to help these families feel safe and get them back on their feet,” Ms Wilson said.
“I introduced this Christmas Drive at Calvary to give back and help our local community. I have been so impressed with the generosity of my colleagues."
“It is really expensive to buy groceries and gifts at the moment, but it can make such a huge impact if everyone just gives something small, and we ended with an entire room dedicated to the donations collection.”
Carrie’s Place Chief Executive Officer, Jayne Clowes, said the cost of living crisis in the lead up to Christmas, could see domestic and family violence escalate.
“We know Christmas is a hard time for a lot of people, especially in the current climate. Carrie’s Place couldn’t do what we do without the ongoing support of our community,” Ms Clowes said.
“We are humbled by the support we have received this year for our Christmas Appeal and the ongoing support throughout the entire year.”
Ms Wilson said it was wonderful to see so many Calvary staff get involved with the worthy cause.
“The work Carrie’s Place does is so important, particularly at this time of year. It is crucial women and children know there is a place they can go and be safe and feel supported. I will always support this wonderful organisation,” Ms Wilson said.
“Our Christmas Appeal is about giving the gift of hope and providing families with dignity and joy,” Ms Clowes added.
Carrie’s Place provides services and support across Maitland, Cessnock, Dungog, Port Stephens, and the Upper and Lower Hunter regions.
