25 years of service for Calvary St Martin de Porres Retirement Community

On Wednesday 23 August Calvary St Martin de Porres Retirement Community in Waratah celebrated their 25th Birthday.

The aged care facility is home to 40 residents and currently employs 32 members of the local Newcastle community.

Residents, staff and family members joined together for a luncheon and entertainment. They enjoyed tunes from the early decades performed by entertainer Greg Mason.

“Greg’s a wonderful entertainer and it was great to start the day off with a bang. He had everyone bopping along and waving their hands in the air” said Facility Manager Maureen Kiss.

Lunch included celebratory bubbles, beer and punch served alongside party treats.

The proceedings also featured a special presentation to employee Suzanna Stojanovski who has worked at Calvary St Martin de Porres since its inception.

“Suzanna is a big part of the St Martin family. She is an invaluable employee who knows how to fix anything!” said Maureen.

Suzanna and Maureen cut the cake alongside Former Manager Leah Sattler.

Maureen said “I am honoured to be a part of the celebration to recognise a great milestone in the local community. Calvary St Martin de Porres has a great reputation in the region and that is due to not only the current staff and volunteers but those who have been here in the past. Leah has played a huge role in building this community to what it is today”.

“Calvary St Martin de Porres is full of love. As soon as you walk in the door you are welcome. It’s my home as well, I just love coming to work”.
