Walk in to a Calvary nursing expo, leave with an interview
It isn’t every day when considering a new role you have the chance to visit your potential new workplace, ask questions and walk away with a job interview, but that is what’s on offer at the Calvary nursing recruitment expo in Launceston this week.
The expo is on at Calvary St Vincent’s Hospital on Thursday, with two sessions scheduled, one from 1pm to 3pm and one from 5pm to 6.30pm.
Staffed booths will be set up in the hospital’s learning and development centre to give prospective new employees an opportunity to browse the different clinical roles on offer, collect information and meet some of the team.
People have already registered for the event, and there is no cap on how many can attend. Online registration is at https://careers.calvarycare.org.au (search for Launceston nursing expo), or people can simply attend on the day.
Acting General Manager for Calvary St Vincent’s and Calvary St Luke’s Hospitals in Launceston, Chris Kent, said both the hospitals were excited to invite local nurses to hear about the career opportunities available, including perioperative roles such as anesthetics and recovery, in the endoscopy suites, or the cardiac cath lab, and other clinical roles.
“This is a chance for our nurses of the future to come along, meet some of the clinical and management team, and, assuming people are appropriately qualified and have the relevant clinical skills, walk away with a time and date for an interview,” Mr Kent said.
“Importantly, it is the chance for potential new starters to talk with some of the people they would be working with on the wards or in our operating theatres so they can get a real feel for the workplace at our hospitals, and also whether they are a fit for our culture of being for others,” Mr Kent said.
“Inviting people to come in, have a chat, see for themselves and actually ask us the questions is a bit of a different approach but one we think is worthwhile.
“Attracting skilled and experienced nurses is vital to our mission of providing safe, quality care for our community and we are serious about growing our local workforce for the future and, where possible, recruiting local.
“We believe working at Calvary here in Launceston, or building a career with Calvary nationally, if that is what people are looking for, has a lot to offer.”
