Living life to the fullest with Calvary Home Care

Rosie’s connection to Calvary goes back a long way. After serving as a nurse in the army, she began working as a nurse with Calvary.

After falling ill on a cruise, she was left unable to walk and was flown to Adelaide for medical care. During her hospital stay, a nurse referred her for a Home Care Package, and four months later, she became a Calvary Home Care recipient.

Growing up, Rosie lived with childhood rheumatoid arthritis, and today she manages osteoarthritis. Over the past six years, she’s had both knees and both shoulders replaced, but that hasn’t slowed her down.

“I live in my own home, and I’m still able to drive,” Rosie says proudly.

Rosie values her independence, and Calvary’s support helps her maintain it. For longer trips, such as medical appointments, a Calvary home care support worker provides transport.

During and after her knee replacements, which were done six months apart, she was able to increase the level of care she received, with our home care team members coming to her place every other day to assist with wound care.

Rosie’s regular routine includes twice-weekly lifestyle support, which covers everything from house cleaning to companionship. Lifestyle support is more than just assistance, it’s about connection and care. If Rosie has an appointment, her home care worker will drive her there, share lunch, and make a day of it.

Rosie especially cherishes her relationship with her case manager, Hayley.

“She’s absolutely wonderful, just a dream. Calvary Home Care is the best thing since sliced bread.”

Last year, just before a month-long trip to Fiji and Bangkok with a school friend, Rosie suffered a serious fall. After three weeks in hospital, she received six weeks of physiotherapy through Calvary Home Care, including chair yoga and other exercises to help her regain strength.

Rosie meets every challenge with the determination to live life to the fullest.

“Some days I think, ‘I don’t want to go for a walk.’ But then I think, ‘If I don’t, I’ll seize up.’ So, I keep moving. If I’m still breathing, then I’m still going to enjoy life.”

Rosie and her friend were able to take their trip, and they had a fantastic time. With Calvary Home Care by her side, Rosie continues to live life on her terms; active, independent, and full of joy. She’s already planning her next holiday!
