In a new partnership with Care 24-7, Australia’s leading provider of specialist-led private hospital emergency departments, southern Tasmanians will have genuine choice when seeking emergency care at any time, Monday to Sunday, year-round.

Calvary Regional Chief Executive, Tasmania, Melissa Evans, said Calvary Lenah Valley Hospital emergency department staff were excited to resume seven-day operations.

“Our partnership with Care 24-7 ensures we have clinically appropriate care available around the clock, seven days a week, which is a great win for the local community,” Ms Evans said.

“In addition to the medical staff appointments, the introduction of Care 24-7 at Calvary Lenah Valley Hospital has seen the implementation of a new patient management system to support the emergency department’s operations, and some upgrades to the triage area to improve the overall patient experience, as well as modernise the workplace.”

In many cases, patients who present to an emergency department are treated and discharged with a referral back to their GP (general practitioner). However, in some cases a patient is admitted to the hospital for further treatment such as surgery or further clinical monitoring.

To ensure admitted patients receive appropriate and timely care, Calvary Lenah Valley Hospital has worked closely with our visiting medical officers to develop general surgical, cardiology and general medicine rosters to directly support the emergency department.

“The extended hours of our emergency department will relieve overall pressure on the public hospital, and the doctor rosters will assist in delivering a more efficient department, giving ambulance service providers confidence they can bring patients to Calvary and be supported,” Ms Evans said.

Care 24-7 Managing Director, Dr Sharad Pandit, said the team was excited to bring its emergency department expertise to Tasmania.
