Calvary Bruce Private Hospital named ACT Large Employer of the Year
Calvary Bruce Private Hospital has won the 2026 ACT Training Awards’ ACT Large Employer of the Year, announced in Canberra last Thursday night.
The award recognises the significant role Calvary Bruce Private Hospital plays as an employer in providing vocational educational opportunities that extend the skills of staff.
According to Calvary Bruce Private Hospital General Manager Ms Sarah Black, the Award is recognition of Calvary Bruce Private Hospital’s role in supporting workforce capability, service quality, and healthcare delivery within the ACT and surrounding regions.
“This award reflects the dedication and commitment to lifelong learning of our teams across the hospital,” Ms Black said.
“It is wonderful to see their collective efforts recognised at a territory level.
“Staff deserve this recognition, which is a testament to our positive culture, investment in training, and commitment to developing our future healthcare workforce.”
Ms Black said the hospital delivers a broad range of healthcare services, supported by essential operational functions such as hospitality and housekeeping services, which contribute directly to patient safety, infection prevention and control, and overall patient experience.
“The hospital recognises that a well‑trained and engaged support workforce is critical to maintaining high standards of care within a complex healthcare environment.” Ms Black said.
“With a large workforce operating across multiple shifts and service areas, there is a strong emphasis on structured workforce development.
“We embed vocational education and training into organisational planning. The training is designed to build capability at scale while remaining flexible enough to meet individual needs, operational demands, and regulatory requirements.”
Continuing Calvary’s presence in the spotlight, Calvary Bruce Private Hospital employee Ahmed Gaafer was recognised as the runner-up in the ACT Australian School-Based Apprentice of the Year category.
Ahmed attended the awards with his mother and was proud to represent Calvary.
Caitlin Carter from Calvary John James Hospital also wanted to keep it in the Calvary family, being named ACT Vocational Student of the Year.
The Charnwood mum now works as an enrolled nurse at Calvary John James Hospital in Deakin through the Graduate Nurse Transition Program.
