Birthing suites and rooms
Calvary Lenah Valley Hospital features one of Tasmania's best-equipped maternity units, including a level 2 special care nursery and 24-hour onsite medical coverage. Our birthing suites prioritise your comfort and safety, creating the perfect environment to welcome your baby.
We encourage your partner and support person to be actively involved throughout your pregnancy, labour, and beyond, that's why partners stay free in our spacious rooms featuring double beds.
Private birthing suites
Our contemporary, air-conditioned suites offer everything you need for a comfortable birth experience:
- Private rooms with double beds and ensuite bathrooms featuring baby baths
- Comfort options including fit balls, walking mats, heat packs, and double-headed showers with baths
- Spectacular views of Mount Wellington and surrounding landscapes
- Dedicated 1:1 midwifery care throughout your labour
- Flat screen TVs for entertainment and relaxation

Specialist equipment
Our level 2 special care nursery provides 24-hour care for newborns from 34 weeks gestation.
The nursery is located right next door to our 5 delivery suites and is fully equipped with specialised medical equipment.
If your baby requires more intensive care, we are fully equipped to stabilise your baby prior to transport to the neonatal intensive care unit. Transfer support is provided by the newborn emergency transport service, from the Royal Hobart Hospital, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Once your baby’s condition improves, we encourage transfer back to our unit, until your baby is ready for discharge home.
Our cardiotocograph (CTG) machine offers patients peace of mind, enabling their obstetrician to monitor the baby’s fetal heart rate and uterine contractions.
We’d like to inform you that going forward, if you are required to attend Calvary Lenah Valley Hospital for a CTG (Cardiotocography), a fee of $50 will apply. This fee will be invoiced following your attendance.
Once payment has been made, you will be able to claim a rebate through Medicare. You can do this either by visiting a Medicare office or lodging your claim online via the Medicare website or App.
Please note: This is not claimable through your health fund.
Our state-of-the-art K2 monitoring system allows obstetricians to provide remote monitoring from their consulting suites or mobile devices, ensuring continuous expert oversight of your baby's care.

- A minimum two night stay is required
- The deluxe suite has an additional charge of $300 per night, which is non-rebateable from my health fund and payable direct to Calvary.
