Our staff are in frequent contact with allied health and consulting medical specialists to provide the very best cancer care. Inpatients have access to complementary services such as specialist oncology massage, Cancer Council support and music therapy.
The services offered are diagnostic services and treatment including chemotherapy, targeted therapies and supportive treatments. Our team of Specialists, Doctors, Nurses and Allied Health Practitioners will work with you to decide the best course of treatment and care. The support of family and friends at this time is encouraged.

Chemotherapy treatment
Our inpatient and chemotherapy day patient unit is located at Calvary St John’s Hospital in South Hobart. Specialist nurses are on hand to provide your treatment, monitor your progress and provide education, answering any questions you may have. You are invited to have a support person present on the first visit. Our friendly staff are aware of and adhere to up to date and best practice guidelines in relation to your care.
Radiation treatment
The Gibson Unit facilitates radiation treatment at a facility of their choice, by providing private transport to and from radiotherapy. Ongoing consultation occurs between specialists, radiographers and nursing staff between facilities to ensure the best possible patient outcomes.

Our Care Coordinator provides patients with a familiar point of contact and ensures continuity of care during cancer treatment. The involvement of the Care Coordinator ensures each patient receives a personalised and streamlined approach to their plan of care. Applying expert knowledge to guide a safe and pleasant transition to home. Our Social Worker also assists with providing social support and expertise to patients within our care. The Care Coordinator and Social Worker liaise with many community organisations, supports and outpatient clinics on a regular basis such as:
- The Cancer Council
- Community Nursing
- Community Palliative Care
- Care Package Coordinators
- Aged Care assessment teams
- Aged Care facilities
These connections assist in the direct admission of patients from the community setting (GPs, Community Nursing, Community Palliative Care & other hospitals).
At Calvary St John’s Hospital, we place emphasis on cancer education, continual assessment and support for patient symptoms and liaison between patient and medical teams to ensure the best service for our patients. Importantly, there is a focus on wellbeing and managing this life interrupting experience.
