Visiting hours

Visiting arrangements at Calvary Mater Newcastle have changed during the coronavirus pandemic to help protect our patients, staff and the community from COVID-19.

Visiting arrangements – Red Alert – Visitor Restrictions

NSW Health has temporarily restricted visitors to all health care facilities.

 Inpatient:

Visitors will only be permitted in limited circumstances:

  • patients who are in a critical condition
  • patients receiving end of life care
  • compassionate reasons, decided case by case
  • as support person for essential patient need

No visitors under 12 years old will be allowed.

Outpatient:

No visitors in appointments, except for essential patient needs:

  • to provide direct physical support
  • if required for decision making

Carers providing emotional support can be dialled into the appointment.

Visitors

Those approved to visit will be screened on entry. Before entry to the hospital, you are required to check in via the QR code located on approach to each entry.

A Rapid Antigen COVID-19 Test (provided by the hospital) is also required on entry.

A surgical mask must be worn. The hospital will provide you with a mask if needed.

Our staff will ask you several questions.

Screening stations are located at each of the public entrances to our hospital:

  • The main hospital/Emergency Department entrance
  • Platt Street entrance (open Monday-Friday 5:30am-5pm)
  • The rear entry at Hunter New England Health’s Mater Mental Health Centre, which is co-located on our campus.

Please wait for our staff to call you in. You can help by keeping your distance and standing 1.5 metres apart from others waiting to be screened.
