We offer a range of amenities at Calvary Mater Newcastle including:

Calvary Mater Newcastle has been designed so that everyone can easily access our facilities, using inclined walkways and ramps throughout. All levels of our hospital are accessible by lifts.

We have clear, straightforward signage throughout the hospital to make it easier to find your way around. The signage uses contrasting colours to help people with impaired vision.

Wheelchairs are available for use while at the hospital. If you need a wheelchair, we’ll provide you with one at admission or you can get help at the Information Desk located in main reception area, level 3.

If you’re in the car park and need a wheelchair, or assistance getting to or from your appointment, please dial 02 4921 1211 for help.

We have a ATM located opposite the Information Desk, level 3, in the main reception area. This machine accepts most commonly used cards.

We provide all patients with free-to-air television at their bedside and there’s no charge for this service.

Located on level 3, close to the Chapel, Amigo Shop To Go, sells a range of newspapers, magazines, meals, confectionary, hot and cold drinks, gifts, books, cards, toiletries and flowers. It also offers mobile phone/data recharges.

    Monday to Sunday, 8:30am – 7:45pm
  • DeliMarche:
    Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4pm
  • Coffee cart: located on level 2
    Monday to Friday, 7am – 2pm

Calvary Mater Newcastle values the religious and cultural needs of those for whom we care. Religious representatives of all faiths are welcome to visit patients from their community of faith. Most Christian denominations and other faiths have an appointed Chaplain/representative to the hospital who is available to visit as requested.

Chapels for quiet reflection and prayer are located in:

  • the main hospital corridor, level 3, next to the Cafe
  • the Hospice, adjacent to the entrance

A meditation room is also available on level 3, staff at the Information Desk will provide directions.

Both chapels and the meditation room are available for use by patients, families, visitors and staff.

For those patients whose religious tradition values Sacramental Care, Holy Communion, Anointing of the Sick, and Reconciliation are available. Arrangements can be made through the Pastoral Care staff or a message can be left on 02 4014 4657.

Group therapy exercise classes are available to patients before, during and after their episode of care at Calvary Mater Newcastle. These therapy sessions will be discussed with you by a member of your care team.

We do not have an in house florist at Calvary Mater Newcastle, but flowers can be purchased at Amigo Shop To Go. Additionally, all florists in Newcastle deliver to the hospital.

At Calvary Mater Newcastle we offer compassionate emotional support and spiritual care for you, your family and friends. Our Pastoral Care Service acknowledges your beliefs, important relationships and all that is meaningful for you. It affirms your intrinsic value as a person.

Pastoral Care can help if you are:

  • Emotionally distressed
  • Struggling with a sense of purpose or meaning
  • Experiencing a time of crisis
  • Feeling lonely or isolated
  • Grieving a loss
  • Making important decisions
  • Needing support with your religious/spiritual practice
  • Preparing for death

If you would like a visit from Pastoral Care please ask a staff member.

The onsite dispensing pharmacy at Calvary Mater Newcastle will provide discharged patients with a short supply of their prescribed medications. The pharmacy is not open to the general public.

Patients may use their mobile phone while at Calvary Mater Newcastle. Please be considerate of other patients, and keep call volume, duration and frequency to a minimum.

Public telephones are located:

  • Level 3 Edith Street Main Entrance, opposite the Information Desk
  • Level 3 Emergency Waiting Room

Bedside telephones are available in some wards.

A post box is located outside the hospital’s main entrance and the post box is cleared daily. Our Cashier sells postage stamps.

Our patients enjoy a redeveloped modern, light and airy environment, surrounded by well-maintained gardens.

We provide all patients with free-to-air television at their bedside. There’s no charge for this service.

Snack and drink vending machines are located in the Emergency Department Waiting Room; these operate 24 hours a day.

Seating for visitors is available in the Main Entrance foyer and corridor. A number of wards also have separate patient and visitor lounges.

There is free public Wi-Fi in the Medical Centre and Radiation Oncology waiting rooms.
