Services and Clinics

At Calvary Health Care Kogarah we offer a high standard of patient care to the communities of the St George and Sutherland Shires, as well as a comprehensive range of health services.

At Calvary, we care about your physical, spiritual and emotional needs. These support services are available to our patients as part of our holistic care.

If you need help at home or are considering moving into an aged care facility, you may need an assessment by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) that services the local government areas of Georges River and Bayside (south of Cooks River).

You will need an ACAT assessment and approval if you want to:

  • Access aged care services through any level of Home Care Package
  • Receive Transition Aged Care goal orientated short term services if you are in hospital at the time of assessment
  • Receive access to respite care in a residential aged care facility
  • Move into permanent care in an aged care facility

Grief is a normal and natural response to the death of someone significant in our lives.  After a death some people may benefit from speaking to a specialist bereavement counsellor – someone outside their usual family and social networks.

Our fully qualified, professional counsellors provide empathic and non-judgemental support in a safe and confidential environment. The service is located in a comfortable cottage near Calvary Health Care Kogarah.

The Calvary Bereavement Counselling Service is open from 8am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday.  Appointments must be made prior to attending the service and are free of charge.

The service is available for people who live in the local government areas of Georges River Council, Bayside Council and the Sutherland Shire.  The death may be from any cause – sudden and unexpected, or after a short or long illness.

We welcome enquiries from potential clients or health professionals. A GP referral is not required to access the counselling service however, a self-referral must be made. Appointments can be made by calling 9553 3025 and are free of charge.

Occupational Therapy provides support to people whose health or disability makes it hard for them to do the things they would like to do.  An Occupational Therapist can identify your strengths and difficulties, help with solutions, and help you to take part in everyday life.

Occupational Therapists do this by identifying your strengths and difficulties and help you work out practical solutions.  They can help you maintain, regain or improve your independence by using different techniques, changing your environment and using equipment.

At Calvary Health Care Kogarah our Occupational Therapists work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the following clinical areas:

    • Rehabilitation – Orthopaedics and Aged Care (inpatients)
    • Transitional Aged Care Service (Community Aged Care)
    • Community Rehabilitation (frail older people and younger people with a disability)
    • Palliative Care inpatients
    • Community Palliative Care Team

Our Occupational Therapists will work with you and your family with the aim of maximising your independence, mobility and safety in order to make life easier and for you to remain at home. They can visit you at home to suggest equipment and/or home modifications to help you to overcome difficulties caused by injury, illness or ageing, to participate fully in everyday activities and remain safe and independent.

Assessments cover multiple areas of your thinking, including your memory, language ability, visuospatial skills, and so-called “executive” functioning (for example, problem-solving, judgement, insight, emotional and behavioural control).
