Preparing for childbirth
Calvary North Adelaide Hospital has a comprehensive pre-natal education program run by our midwives to provide you with information, support and guidance as you and your family prepare for pregnancy and parenting.
Our dedicated obstetricians, paediatricians, midwives, nurses and allied health teams are here to support all aspects of your midwifery care.
Face to face antenatal classes are run by midwives from the unit and are held on a Saturday.
The topics covered include labour & birthing, pain relief & coping methods, variations (induction, caesarean section), baby care & going home.
Classes give couples the opportunity to meet other prospective parents and to ask questions if needed.
A link to online classes is also available, as these contain many resources plus the tour of the unit video.
Breastfeeding classes are held on Wednesday mornings, and Thursday evenings.
These sessions are run by a midwife who is a Lactation Consultant, and who also works in the postnatal clinic.
Pre-natal and breastfeeding classes are optional, and partners are encouraged to attend.
Classes can be booked via the maternity ward clerk who will contact individuals once their online booking is received.
