Tracey Loehr | Support Worker Team Leader, Calvary Community Care
I have worked in community care for 12 years.
It would be fair to say that I fell into the job! I wanted to be a nurse but I left school at the age of 15 years and ended up in other roles. I never returned to nursing as a career. In later years, I cared for a family member with multiple sclerosis (MS) and he suggested that I would make a good carer. When a cousin told me about a role with Calvary, it all happened from there.
This job is my passion and I go into each client visit with a positive attitude.
I really enjoy my role and see this as one that I will work through to retirement. One of the things I love about my job is the good rapport I have developed with each of my clients. I work through the required tasks and carry these out according to their preference. If something cannot be accommodated, possibly due to time or safety constraints or both, we discuss options and reach a compromise.
In the 12 years of working in community care, the single thing that clients appreciate most is from me is to spend some time with them to chat and listen.
My clients inspire me to give 110 per cent effort each time.
