Dr Bernard Carney
Bernard (or, ‘Barney’ as we call him) became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2004, gaining further postgraduate training in burns through a Fellowship at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Adelaide Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Apart from consulting at Adelaide Plastic Surgery, his private practice includes two days a month in South Australia’s mid-north (Clare, Balaklava and Jamestown). Barney also conducts public appointments at the Adelaide Women’s & Children’s Hospital (for paediatric plastic and burns surgery) and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. His main specialties are in plastic surgery of the breast, including reconstruction, as well as hand surgery, paediatric plastic surgery, surgery for skin cancer and cosmetic surgery.
Barney is heavily involved in burns education, supervising local trainees and training medical students.
In partnership with his colleagues at Adelaide Plastic Surgery, he provides a comprehensive, 24/7 emergency plastic-surgical service.
