Local MP Attends Calvary Cessnock Remembrance Day Service

On Friday 11 November 2016 a moving Remembrance Day service was held at Calvary Cessnock Retirement Community.

The service was attended by both residents and staff as well as the Federal Member for Hunter the HON Joel Fitzgibbon MP. Mr. Fitzgibbon addressed attendees and spoke about the importance of the sacrifice and commitment made by service men and women.

He made special mention of residents that had served including Bert Ferris (recently passed) who was a Rat of Tobruk. He also honoured his late father-in-law Allen McKay.

Mr. Fitzgibbon donated a Lone Pine that was planted as part of the service. The Pine was originally from the Canberra War Memorial and was blessed during the ceremony.

The service also included bag pipes in the background as Calvary Cessnock resident Bill Hicks read a poem.

Lest We Forget.
