New SPHERE Palliative Care Clinical Academic Group formed

Calvary Health Care Kogarah researchers Dr. Jan Maree Davis, Dr Caitlin Sheehan, Professor Liz Lobb and Dr. Linda Sheahan are members of a newly established and funded Clinical Academic Group in Palliative Care.

The SPHERE Palliative Care Clinical Academic Group (PC-CAG), led by Professor Meera Agar, has been funded $400,000 over 3 years and aims to improve palliative care and end of life outcomes and enhance quality of life for adults and children living with progressive and/or advanced illness(es), and their caregivers.

This will be achieved through collaborative trans-disciplinary research driven by clinical and consumer priorities; and the creation of translational partnerships that increase community engagement, build capacity and in turn lead to practice change and policy reform. The PC-CAG vision is to enhance and cement as ‘usual business’ the provision of best evidence-based palliative care within clinician-academic-service partnerships.

Maridulu Budyari Gumal – The Sydney Partnership for Health, Education, Research and Enterprise (SPHERE) – is an integrated health science network of global significance in New South Wales.

SPHERE brings together three universities, two Local Health Districts, two Local Health Networks, seven Medical Research Institutes, nine major teaching hospitals, and ex officio, the NSW Ministry of Health.

In order to reflect the culturally diverse nature of our partnership and to acknowledge our commitment to the Aboriginal community, SPHERE has been gifted the indigenous name, Maridulu Budyari Gumal, a Dharug name, meaning ‘Working together for good health and wellbeing‘.
