Calvary shines at the Canberra Health Annual Research Meeting (CHARM)

The Canberra Health Annual Research Meeting (CHARM) is held each year and seeks to explore how interdisciplinary research can contribute to a sustainable health system through discovery and collaboration.

At this year’s meeting, a full day was devoted to End of life care – Past trends, future projections and implications for services. The full program can be accessed here.

Several of the staff at Clare Holland House contributed to the meeting.

Nikki Johnston OAM, MACN (pictured above left) spoke on the research done on palliative needs care rounds in the ACT, and presented a poster on an evidence-based definition of ‘specialist’ palliative care.

She also participated in a panel discussion on Good living, safe dying along with Dr Sue Rainsford PhD, FACCRM, FAChPM. who had elaborated on the concept of ‘safe death’ in her PhD studies.

Rachel Bilton-Simek BN, RN, MPCNA (pictured above right) presented a poster on the Caring@home resources.

The program included key note addresses from Distinguished Professor Patsy Yates on Achieving quality palliative care for all; Professor Penelope Schofield on Developing effective, clinically feasible and sustainable models for people receiving palliative care  and their families; and Professor Kathy Eager on Choices at the end of life: palliative care and other end of life decisions.
