Crafty Calvary residents back for fun in the SunFest

Crafty residents will be front and centre at Calvary Goonawarra‘s stall at SunFest this weekend, selling knitted items and bead jewellery made especially for the community festival.

The Calvary Goonawarra team are back bigger and better this year, after being awarded Best Business/Service at their inaugural appearance at last year’s festival.

Behind the Scenes

This year, ladies from the home’s Knit and Natter group will showcase their skills and goods, selling knitted items such as beanies, scarves, coat hangers, teddy bears, and children’s jumpers and jackets, along with bracelets and earrings made with beads donated by a local store.

Resident Valda Wardley, who started the group, said this was the first time they had sold their handiwork, and everyone had had fun purpose making the items.

“We have a regular knitting group at the home and we all share our thoughts to prepare for the next project,” said Valda, who also runs Valda’s Value Shop at the home; a weekly Tuesday trolley service popular with residents, families and staff alike.

Resident Valda Wardley will be one of the Calvary Goonawarra team manning the stall at SunFest.

Home manager Michelle Magundayao said residents and staff were looking forward to participating again in the long-running community event.

“Our residents and staff are part of the wonderful Sunbury community and are really excited to be coming back.”

“It is important for residents to be involved in the community and be able to continue to do the things that interest them – whether it’s gardening at the home, tinkering in the Men’s Shed, or coming along to the parade and festival.”
