Community Palliative Care Forum

A very successful Community Palliative Care Forum was hosted in Wagga on Monday evening by Calvary Riverina Hospital’s Palliative Care Enhancement Council in collaboration with Calvary Riverina Hospital, the Murrumbidgee Local Health District, Forrest Centre Hospice and Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network. The purpose of this forum was to start the conversation about palliative care, what it means, who the service providers are and how they work together to support palliative care for our community.

The Forum featured a panel of key note speakers including a senior physician, oncologist, palliative care nurse practitioner and family carers discussing their journey, the importance of early palliative care involvement and living well with a life limiting illness.

The Forum was attended by over 150 members of the community. A resource booklet for community members has been produced by all core service providers, facilitated by Calvary Riverina Hospital. This booklet guides people through the various services they may require including how to access these services, important questions to ask your doctor and medical terminology to assist with health literacy.

Calvary is committed to delivering the best possible end of life and palliative care, underpinned by the establishment of the Calvary Palliative and End of Life Care Research Institute. Projects being undertaken at the Institute address the whole arc of the palliative and end of life care experience for patients, their families and carers.
