Sit back and relax

Patients visiting Calvary Mater Newcastle’s Day Treatment Centre for chemotherapy are now able to receive their treatment in relative comfort thanks to the generosity of our Auxiliary.

Six new chemotherapy chairs, complete with multimedia outlets, were purchased for the Day Treatment Centre from funding received by the Wests Group as part of the ClubGRANTS program.

Sarah Scudds, Relieving Nurse Unit Manager, said, “The chairs generously purchased by the Auxiliary have enhanced the comfort for the patients in the Day Treatment Centre. The chairs are made of pressure relieving seating, which for our patients is very important in the prevention of pressure ulcers whist having long treatments.

“The patients love the chairs and are always so surprised at how comfortable they can be during chemotherapy treatment. The chairs have opening arms which allows for hot drink to be safety placed next to the patient; for them to play cards or set up a work area whist they receive their treatment.

“All staff and patients wish to extend a warm thank you for the Auxiliary’s ongoing support of our service. They help make a difficult time more bearable.”
