Event – Research at Calvary Mater Newcastle
25th October 2018
Members of the Hunter and Newcastle community are invited to attend a Calvary Mater Newcastle Research Information Session being held at the hospital on Friday 2 November, aiming to bring further awareness regarding the types of research carried out at the Mater.
This FREE community event open to all will include a number of short talks by some of the hospital’s esteemed researchers ranging from cancer clinical trials to snake venoms, to drug development and more.
Dr Jennette Sakoff, Chief Hospital Scientist in Medical Oncology and Chair of the Research Development and Engagement Committee, Calvary Mater Newcastle, said, “As well as delivering health care, Calvary Mater Newcastle has a long-standing and strong commitment to instigating, supporting and delivering cutting-edge translational research. This upcoming information session provides an ideal opportunity for members of our local community to come along and find out more about some of the research undertaken at the hospital. It will also give attendees a chance to meet some of our researchers, ask questions, as well as provide feedback to our researchers.”
Dr Sakoff comments,
“Our extensive range of hospital specialties means Calvary Mater Newcastle is in a unique position to undertake a broad spectrum of research. We believe that research should directly benefit patients; therefore, we align our research with areas of clinical need. Our researchers are consistently translating research into clinical practice that will benefit patients in the local community and ultimately throughout the world.”
