David’s Story
17th December 2015
What’s it like to work at Calvary?
David had a career in hotels before coming to Calvary. Over his time at Calvary he has enjoyed being with the residents and even set up a group to support the male residents. He is currently studying to move into aged care, which Calvary is helping him to achieve. Watch David’s story here.
“I joined Calvary 15 months ago and have thoroughly enjoyed my time here so far. I previously did tree lopping for about 5 years and decided to apply for a job that wasn’t so labour intensive.
“I am currently working for the maintenance department and also drive the village bus.
“I have always had a fondness for elderly people and find I can connect with older people more than with people my age.
“Working in maintenance I have acquired many skills and really enjoy working with my fellow employees. The most enjoyment I get working here is from the appreciation from the residents.
“At the end of last year we started a men’s group, which basically involves having a BBQ and activities with a number of men from the Hostel and Nursing home.
“This month I am starting to study Certificate IV in aged care which will give me the skills and knowledge to help with the men’s group and the bus outings. I’m looking forward to completing the course and hopefully moving into the care side of Calvary.
“All in all it has so far been a very enjoyable and rewarding experience.”
