Death as a lived experience… Lesley’s story
When Lesley Campbell faced death last year, she lived and died with her family and carers including one of Australia’s foremost palliative care Nurse Practitioners. For Lesley’s husband, Michael, and Nurse Practitioner Kevin Hardy.
Death and dying was a profound experience for both and although both hold a strong conviction to their Christian faith, it was their experience not their beliefs that predominately have shaped their opinions of their palliative care experience.
As Kevin says, “I have seen many wonderful things that patients and families have experienced in the end stage of illness. These may not have occurred if there was on opportunity to end a life prematurely.”
Here Michael Campbell speaks for a family and Kevin Hardy speaks as a carer in death for more than 20 years.
