The Staff Specialist will be responsible for the provision of high quality, safe and effective clinical
management of patients. The Staff Specialist works within an inter-disciplinary team to ensure
timely, appropriate care and effective discharge strategies. Duties will include patient care,
supervision and teaching, continuing medical education, research and administration. The
gastroenterology on-call involves coordination with gastroenterologists employed at JHH who
also cover CMN after hours.
Criteria:

- A Primary Medical Degree registrable by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or other specialist recognition as provided for the NSW (Non-Declared) AHO Staff Specialist Agreement or the Health Insurance Act 1973.
- Experience and qualification(s) in Gastroenterology and Emergency Gastroenterology and willingness to participate in an on-call roster.
- Demonstrated capacity for clinical leadership and willingness to participate in clinical research.
- Understanding of the principles of clinical governance to promote quality and safety in health care with experience in and commitment to evidence based best practice.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.

A vacancy exists for suitably a qualified Registered Nurse within the Clinical Trials Unit of the Department of Medical Oncology. The successful applicants will compliment an experienced clinical research team coordinating clinical trials in the treatment of a range of malignancies. This position specialises in administrative and roster development to support the nursing and support services staff. There is an exciting opportunity for a qualified radiation oncology medical physicist to lead one of the largest radiation oncology departments in New South Wales, Australia. We are seeking an innovative and enthusiastic leader committed to multi-disciplinary teamwork in a tumour-stream environment.
Calvary Mater Newcastle, operated by Little Company of Mary Health Care, is a tertiary referral hospital for the Hunter region and is a teaching hospital for the University of Newcastle. Clinical equipment in the radiation oncology department includes five Varian Linear Accelerators (including OBI and cone beam CT); Toshiba large bore CT and GE Lightspeed RT CT; Eclipse, Brainlab and Oncentra 3D treatment planning systems; Gulmay superficial / orthovoltage unit; Nucletron HDR Brachytherapy Unit; and full mould room facilities. The radiation oncology department is fully networked with the ARIA patient administration system. IMRT and VMAT treatments are in routine use. Currently the department is implementing stereotactic treatments and respiratory gating.
The medical physics group consists of twelve physicists, one physics technician, two trainee medical physicists, and three electronics technicians. There is an extensive inventory of physics equipment and specialised software including RITTM, MatlabTM, 3D detectors, 4D phantoms, and a multiple CPU computer system with BEAMnrc Monte Carlo code. The department employs a dedicated research physicist to direct and perform research within the department. The medical physics research staff also includes two post-doctoral positions, and three post graduate students. Current research projects include EPID dosimetry, MRI for radiation oncology, and MRI based prostate treatment planning.

- Masters of Science (with medical physics major) or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience and competency at least equivalent to that of a Senior Medical Physics Specialist Year 4, in accordance with the Named NSW (Non-Declared) AHO Hospital Scientists Agreement. (Please note Enterprise Agreement requirements below).
- ACSPEM Certification in Radiotherapy Equipment Commissioning and Quality Assurance or Radiation Oncology Medical Physics or equivalent and eligible to be licensed to use ionising radiation equipment in NSW.
- Demonstrates ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams in the development and implementation of innovative treatment planning and delivery techniques.
- Demonstrates high level verbal and written communication skills to co-ordinate multi-disciplinary care and to manage staff performance and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrates commitment to improving quality, efficiency and productivity in radiotherapy.
- Demonstrates commitment to professional development by participation in clinical activities of the department, and by contributing to educational and research activities both within the department and externally.
